Blackmoor Care Home is a 30-bed new build care home, located in the Tile Cross area of Birmingham. Exemplar Health Care Limited is the client representative responsible for providing S+SA Architects with instructions throughout the project.

Throughout this case study, I will highlight the professional, regulatory, contractual and management issues concerning the project and demonstrate my professional judgement through critical analysis and reflection on the events that occurred within the study and compare to best practice where appropriate. I will focus upon my role through RIBA work stages 3-5, where I have been a significant part of the project team. The project is currently progressing on-site with a completion date scheduled for 29th March 2021 and has been invaluable for my professional development.

The case study will critically analyse and reflect on the events in chronological order.

I have been working at PBA for over 15 months now, many of my colleagues are highly experienced and regarded in their chosen field. For me working alongside them, I have realised how much I can learn. This case study has also taught me how much I can challenge them. As a traditional practice, PBA continues to work in the same methodologies. Some of their bad habits have in turn been passed on to me. This is particularly prevalent with contract choice. As a practice we continue to use the JCT suite of contracts. Following a recent Part 3 study day, I discussed with the practice the need to use homeowner contracts on domestic jobs. They were sceptical but after I explained, they agreed to look at this as an option.

Personal Development Appraisal

A professional experience evaluation summarising the candidate’s experience in education and architectural practice. This is supplemented with a Fenwick diagram, and CPD programme setting out future learning needs and approach to ‘life-long learning’ within the context of a changing profession and career path speculation.

PEDRs

Completion of a minimum of 24months PEDR requires quarterly completion and submission of PEDR Sheets with reflective commentary: includes written commentary from the student's Employment Mentor in practice and provision for feedback from the student’s Professional Studies Advisor.
